Stories of Hope

Organ donation and transplant touch many lives in many ways. There are stories of the young and the old, the donor and the recipient, the loved ones and the friends. Sharing stories can honor those that have donated and celebrate that that have received.

Transplant times two!
In retrospect we should have seen the signs of Miles' illness. His skin coloring was changing as were the whites of his eyes, but it was so slow and so subtle that we just never noticed. It wasn't until Miles had his 6-month check-up that someone finally noticed the yellow tone to his skin. Miles' pediatrician noticed right away at his check-up. She felt his liver, and immediately sent us to the Liver Team at Children's Mercy hospital in Kansas City. Read more…

Arundi Mahendran
Arundi Mahendran, MBBS, MRCS, MSc is a transplant surgeon and accomplished singer. Originally from London, Dr. Mahendran completed her general surgery residency at University College London and a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. A recent episode of NY Med followed Dr. Mahendran as she collaborated on a living donor liver transplantation in which one brother donated a portion of his liver to the other.
